West Northants Woodturners has about 50 members of varying skill levels from absolute beginners up. We meet regularly on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 7.00pm to 9.30pm in Weedon Village Hall The hall is large and light, was extensively refurbished in 2010 and has a large car park (see directions page for details)
We have audio visual equipment obtained from a generous Lottery Grant which enables us to project panoramic and close up views of the demonstration on to a large screen.
There is a £10 annual membership fee supplemented by a £4 charge for attendance at meetings and an optional raffle at £1 a ticket. There is no charge for initial attendance.
The usual meeting format is for a guest turner, or one of our members, to demonstrate their skills whilst entertaining and informing the audience. Some "Hands On" meetings are arranged where members are able to take part using one of the club's nine lathes to gain practical experience. Meetings also include a drinks and biscuits break and on the first Wednesday of the month we have an open competition where members can show their recent work and compete for the Turner of the Year prize.
During the winter months we provide tuition classes staffed by experienced members. These are aimed at novices but are also useful for people wanting specialised help with particular areas of turning.
We run a shop which carries a varied stock of useful woodworking accessories. Wood from local sources is available from time to time. There is also a library with a good selection of books for the use of members at a nominal charge of £1 a fortnight.
The Club is fully insured.
